A Large Hole for a Lot of Water
Mr. Postma 08/27/09 06:18 PM CST

Today construction crews have been working on digging to the correct depth the hole that will be used for the underground water retention area. I would estimate it is about 8 feet deep and stretches close to the entire width of the property.

Because the school is eliminating grassy area that could be used to soak up large amounts of rain, the City of Lafayette is requiring that the school provide some way to hold flash flood rain water from our land and the neighborhoods around the school. The options were the retention area or a fenced in above ground pond area. With our shortage of playground area, we had little choice but to place it underground.

Here is video of what the large hole looks like right now. Below that are the plastic, yellow devices that will be buried to create this retention area.
