7th Grade Serves at St. Ann's

7th Grade Students with Boxes of Turkeys for Distribution

Our 7th grade students had the privilege of helping distribute Thanksgiving dinner St. Ann's this morning.  When the students arrived, they were shocked to see a line of people halfway around the block, waiting for the distribution to begin.  Staff at the soup kitchen had never seen the line that long.  They were grateful for our student's help!  The number of people in need from all walks of life, really impacted our student's hearts.  The students bagged the groceries, bagged the turkeys, folded boxes, and helped carry the groceries to individual's cars.  St. Ann's distributed the groceries for approximately 1,800 Thanksgiving meals. The groceries donated from many organizations and individuals total in value to $25,000. Abney said "I loved being able to help this morning.  I was so surprised how many people were there needing food.  It was sad, but I was glad we were able to be there to help out."

K-5day Students Congratulated by Book Author

November 08, 2011
By Julie Williams

Mrs. Sieplinga writes:  "I just wanted to share an exciting little tidbit from my classroom.  I posted on my blog about a book we had read in class called The Pout-Pout Fish, and the author of the book actually found the post and commented on it!  The kids were so excited when I shared the author's message with them, and they all wanted to write back to her - so we did.  It was neat to see!"

Here is the author's post:  "I ran across this blog post and I just wanted to take a moment to say how delightful it was to read about this lightbulb moment!  What a joy when kids dive so deeply into the books they're looking at.  I hope they continue to enjoy The Pout-Pout Fish books, and all the other books that will be a part of their young lives.

A book a day keeps the pout-pouts away!"

Best Fishes to you and all your students,
Debbie Diesen (author of The Pout-Pout Fish)
