What is Dutch Apple Pie week at Lafayette Christian School?

For one week every October, the school’s gym is turned into an apple pie factory. Thousands of apples are peeled, sliced, mixed with cinnamon and sugar, placed into piecrusts and covered with crumb topping. Over 6,000 pies are produced in TWO days. They are moved from the gym to freezer trucks outside to be frozen and sold to the public for the next three days or until they are sold out. Hundreds of volunteers are needed to make this a success! Proceeds are used to subsidize the cost of education.

How much money is raised for the school?

This AWESOME fund raiser makes $40,000! The best part is we don't have to send any children door to door selling anything! All the buyers come to us and most of them have been coming back for many years!

When is the Dutch Apple Pie production?

This year we will be making the pies on Monday, October 12, 2009 from 8:00am to 10:00pm. The second day of production will be Tuesday, October 13, 2009 from 8:00am to 9:00pm or until pies are completed, the gym is cleaned and ready for gym classes to resume the following day.

Who helps make all those pies?

Lots of gracious volunteers!!! We ask that all current Lafayette Christian School parents work a four-hour shift. We also have alumni of Lafayette Christian come back to work, some even bring their parents! We luckily have students from Purdue and other community service organizations help us. We gladly welcome church groups, grandparents, aunts, uncles, or anyone in the ninth grade or older! You never know who you may rub elbows with...what a great way to enjoy Christian fellowship and meet new people!

Where can I buy a pie?

The distribution of the pies is in the parking lot off of Brown Street at the south side of the school building. The pies are all sold on a first come, first serve basis. We do not take orders for the selling of the pies. We will begin selling the pies Wednesday, October 14, 2009 from 8:30am until 6pm. We will resume selling the pies on Thursday, October 15, 2009 and Friday, October 16, 2009 from 8:30am until 6pm or until the pies are "sold out!"

Who can I talk to about helping make or sell the pies?

Please feel free to call or write to Tina Eversman or Tara Krintz. They will answer any questions you may have and even help you sign-up for "a shift." Tina Eversman-765-449-2432 or deversman [at] verizon.net Tara Krintz-765-471-2421 or ckrintz [at] verizon.net
