Thanks for stopping by this website. I want to tell you a little about myself.
I have been married to Mitchell for 26 years! Praise God from whom all blessings flow. We are privileged to have three children: Chloe- a college sophomore, Caden, a high school senior, and Corey, a high school sophomore.
Speaking of LCS, I need to tell you that I taught at LCS in the nineties and then moved to Kansas. It was a sad moment when I left the school. In fact, I still have photos of my blotchy face as I taught my last day. I think that speaks volumes of the impact LCS has on the students AND the teachers. It is a place dear to my heart.
We lived in Kansas for 10 years. While in Kansas, I taught for one year and then decided to stay home to raise our children. We also remodeled a really old home. This definitely taught me a fruit of the Spirit- patience. While remodeling the kitchen, we ate out of the crock pot every day. We also endured many black rat snakes.Needless to say, snakes are not my favorite creature! We attended a fabulous church- Faith Evangelical Free Church. My relationship with the Lord grew in ways I never could have imagined. Despite experiencing God's goodness in many ways, I really wanted to live in Lafayette again. God answered our prayers and here we are!
Teaching children each day is definitely a blessing from the Lord. It keeps you young! It also constantly humbles me as I need to ask God for wisdom each day. I chuckle a lot! Kids are really funny. I enjoy seeing all the gifts God has given them, and it thrills me to think of the different ways God will use them as adults.
I love teaching and looking at curriculum. We currently use the following curriculum in third grade:
Math- Everyday Math- The University of Chicago School Mathematics Project
Bible- Walking with God and His People-- Christian Schools International
Social Studies- McGraw Hill is the publisher
Reading- McGraw Hill- Wonders
Science- Scott Foresman
Handwriting-- Yes, we teach cursive! Zaner Bloser
Language Arts which includes writing and grammar-- McGraw Hill
Some of this changes and I use additional supplementary material.
Besides teaching, I enjoy the ever-changing world of education. I work at reading online blogs and websites. One of my favorites is Reading Rockets, a reading newsletter that links to news regarding literature. I use Twitter for education and to follow other educators around the nation. I also like taking online seminars that offer quick refreshers.
If you have any additional questions, let me know. I would love to chat! Cheerio! Michelle
